Job Overview

Under the supervision of the Latent Print Supervisor, the Lead Latent Print Examiner is responsible for the training and quality assurance aspects of the Latent Print training initiatives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Training Development: Deliver comprehensive training to both current and new Latent Print personnel as the primary instructor.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Training Coordinator and Technical Lead to establish training schedules, objectives, and plans.
  • Case Management Support: Assist management in guiding staff on intricate cases.
  • Laboratory Oversight: Provide insights on laboratory requirements and maintain an organized supply inventory.
  • Equipment Validation: Assess and recommend new laboratory equipment and chemicals.
  • Proficiency Testing: Aid in conducting proficiency evaluations.
  • Internal Audits: Engage in internal audit processes.
  • Standard Operating Procedures: Contribute to the review and formulation of standard operating procedures to ensure best practices.
  • Special Projects: Participate in various special projects and compile reports as needed.
  • Management Support: Assist management in resolving issues and providing strategic recommendations for departmental leadership.
  • Casework Execution: Conduct latent print examinations and processing, generate reports, and provide expert testimony in court when required.
Qualifications

Educational Background:

A Bachelor's degree in a physical or natural science from an accredited institution is mandatory. Degrees in Forensic Science may be considered upon review of relevant coursework. Relevant experience may substitute for a science degree, and a graduate degree is advantageous.

Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of three years in latent print comparison and processing casework is essential.
  • At least one year of experience in latent print processing is highly preferred.
  • Experience in training for comparison and processing is strongly preferred.
  • IAI Latent Print Certification is highly desirable.
  • Leadership experience is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • In-depth knowledge of latent print methodologies and procedures.
  • Expertise in evidentiary processing techniques for latent impression evidence.
  • Proficiency in photography and digital imaging systems.
  • Understanding of accreditation standards, including participation in audits and assessments.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Competence in utilizing computer software and applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Capability to navigate conflicts and uncertain situations.
  • Skill in maintaining effective communication and relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
