Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Laboratory Manager to join our team at the Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of personnel engaged in research and experimental testing, maintaining lab operations, and investigating complaints regarding lab services, equipment, and/or capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of personnel engaged in research and experimental testing
  • Maintain lab operations, including inventory management and equipment maintenance
  • Investigate complaints regarding lab services, equipment, and/or capabilities
  • Conduct personnel evaluations and recommend hiring and terminations
  • Operate with considerable latitude for unreviewed action
  • Review and evaluate the effectiveness of personnel
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience in a research laboratory setting
  • Technical skills working with animals in a veterinary research or clinical environment
  • Cell and molecular biology skills, including PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, RNA isolation and purification, protein isolation, immunocyto/histochemistry, and fluorescence microscopy
  • Extensive experience with lab safety procedures and general laboratory safety practices
  • Ability to follow animal research protocols and stay within compliance of IACUC guidelines
  • Ability to work individually and as a team, with hands-on lab and animal experience
  • Experience in writing SOPs, working with and training students, ordering, and lab maintenance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Department is willing to accept education in lieu of experience
