Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Laboratory Manager to join our team at the Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of personnel engaged in research and experimental testing, maintaining lab operations, and investigating complaints regarding lab services, equipment, and/or capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage the operation of two or more research laboratories, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources.
  2. Assign, check, and monitor assignments of lab personnel, providing guidance and support as needed.
  3. Maintain an adequate inventory of equipment, chemicals, and other materials, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
  4. Estimate personnel needs to achieve lab and research objectives, making recommendations for staffing and resource allocation.
  5. Conduct personnel evaluations, recommend hiring and terminations, and perform other management functions, ensuring a positive and productive work environment.
  6. Operate with considerable latitude for unreviewed action, making decisions that align with the organization's goals and objectives.
  7. Review and evaluate the effectiveness of personnel, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes as needed.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of experience in a research laboratory setting. A strong background in cell and molecular biology, laboratory safety procedures, and animal research protocols is essential. The successful candidate will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred qualifications include technical skills working with animals in a veterinary research or clinical environment, experience with laboratory safety practices, and skills to follow animal research protocols and stay within compliance of IACUC guidelines.
