JOB SUMMARY
Facilitate and apply effective strategies to address behavioral and social challenges faced by students. Act as a resource for school staff and parents. Assist in the formulation and execution of behavioral plans and services tailored for students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Enhance classroom systems and protocols while managing student behavior to ensure full engagement in learning.
Work collaboratively with educators and families to guarantee the faithful implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans and Behavior Student Support Teams (SSTs).
Engage with students, parents, and school personnel to foster a safe and productive learning atmosphere.

Collaborate with relevant staff to support students receiving mental health services that necessitate behavioral assistance, in accordance with Individual Education Plans, Behavior Intervention Plans, and Behavior SSTs.

Provide individualized or small group instruction and support to students.
Possess knowledge of and apply de-escalation techniques effectively.

Understand child development principles and practices, particularly concerning students with learning disabilities, developmental delays, and autism spectrum behaviors.

Exhibit strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Manage emotionally charged situations through problem-solving and mediation techniques.
Interact and collaborate with staff, students, and families in a professional manner.
Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Document and maintain records of behavior support interactions and parent communications.
Communicate professionally and effectively with families and caregivers regarding behavioral matters.

Demonstrate knowledge of and support for the mission, vision, and values of Aspire Public Schools, including antiracism, policies, procedures, confidentiality standards, and ethical conduct.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Competencies:
Understanding of child cognitive development and diverse learning styles.
Willingness and ability to implement Behavior Intervention Plans.
Commitment to self-reflection and continuous improvement.
Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances; initiative to modify activities as needed.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with both general and special education colleagues, parents, and the community.
Experience in Special Education.
Ability to work independently as a self-starter in a new environment.
Capability to thrive as part of a team.
Experience working with a diverse student population.
Desire to support a variety of students with behavioral needs.
2 to 3 years of demonstrated effective instructional practice and student management.

Minimum educational level:
Associate's degree or completion of 48 college credit units (or Paraprofessional certification).
Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Experience required:
2+ years of experience working with students in educational or residential settings.
Trained in positive behavioral strategies for prevention and de-escalation of behavior.

Maintain training in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) positive behavioral strategies by attending refresher courses as required.


Physical requirements:
Ability to move in various positions to complete tasks in different environments, including tight spaces.
Ability to remain stationary for extended periods, whether standing or sitting.
Ability to move about to accomplish tasks or transition between work sites.
Ability to assess the accuracy and thoroughness of assigned work.
Ability to communicate effectively with others to exchange information.
Ability to perform repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Work authorization requirements:
Pass the Department of Justice background screening.
Authorized to work in the United States.
Provide health (TB) clearance, renewed every four years.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The characteristics of the work environment are typical of those found in a standard office or classroom setting, which one may encounter while performing the essential functions of this role.
