As a Senior Internal Auditor, you are expected to exhibit comprehensive knowledge of the mortgage sector and Fannie Mae's operational framework while pursuing specialized expertise in specific functional areas.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESExecute all essential functions of the Internal Auditor position with increased complexity, scope, and independence.
Lead audit team discussions regarding the audit strategy, including background information, preliminary objectives/scope (identified during the Annual Audit Planning process), budget considerations, execution timelines, involved departments, key contacts, and expectations.
Take charge of and independently manage segments of audits with minimal oversight from the Audit Manager/Director. Conduct preliminary reviews of Internal Auditor outputs and documentation; utilize guidance from the Internal Audit Manager/Director as necessary. Review audit documentation to identify risks and assess their potential impact on the organization. Perform root cause analyses on discrepancies found during audits. Validate and document the Risk Control Matrix; develop testing procedures based on this matrix. Draft audit reports and collaborate with the Audit Manager/Director for revisions and finalization. Write Internal Control Issues (ICIs), engage with audit management, and confirm issues with stakeholders; assist in additional report writing as required.
Support the tracking of outcomes from previous audits, identify recurring audit themes across various organizations, and evaluate whether appropriate corrective measures have been implemented for significant audit concerns.
Contribute to enhancing the governance, risk, and control framework of the organization; share insights, ideas, and recommendations with the Internal Audit Manager/Director and Internal Audit teams.
Provide informal coaching and guidance to Internal Auditors on a day-to-day basis. Share expertise in specialized areas to enhance knowledge and capabilities within the Internal Audit function. Foster and maintain relationships with business partners at both managerial and staff levels.
Offer advice and share Internal Audit insights with business partner managers and staff to bolster governance, risk, and control frameworks as appropriate.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCEMinimum of 3 years of experience in auditing internal controls is preferred. Experience in a trading environment is advantageous. Familiarity with financial products such as derivatives, futures, options, commodities, fixed income, ABS/MBS/CMBS, swaps, and swaptions is preferred but not mandatory. Prior experience in pricing and valuations is also beneficial but not essential.
Demonstrated capability to document and analyze business operations to assess risk and identify as well as test controls.
Strong analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate facts and data to draw conclusions, even when information is limited, and to articulate problems or situations using a systematic approach.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and convey thoughts clearly and effectively.
Ability to understand the current role of Fannie Mae in the market, as well as the lending industry and secondary mortgage market.
Capacity to thrive in a dynamic and unstructured environment while managing ambiguity. A collaborative team player who works effectively with various team members to achieve integrated solutions.
