Job Summary

The Endoscope Reprocessing Technician (ERT) is a highly skilled professional responsible for the cleaning, disinfecting, inspecting, sterilizing, and assembling of complex endoscopes used in advanced patient procedures, including GI/Pulmonary and endoscopic cases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cleaning and disinfecting endoscopes and other medical instruments
  • Inspecting and testing instruments to ensure they are in good working condition
  • Sterilizing instruments using various methods, including autoclaving and dry heat sterilization
  • Assembling and preparing instruments for use in surgical procedures
  • Tracking and maintaining inventory of instruments and supplies
Requirements
  • Certification from the National Institute for Certification of Healthcare Sterile Processing & Distribution (CRCST) or the Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
  • At least five years of recent experience in a similar setting, with one year of demonstrated current experience working with flexible scopes
  • Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience adhering to American Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) recommended practices
  • Knowledge of AORN (Association of Operating Room Nurses) recommended practices
Work Environment

The Central Processing Department supports Patient Care Services, Ambulatory Services, and the Primary Care Network within the Health System by cleaning, disinfecting reusable equipment and the cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization of surgical instrumentation used by these services.

Central Processing cleans and restocks all emergency crash carts, first responder bags, airway boxes, and ICU transport bags for the Health System.

Central Processing also manages fiscal, materiel, and human resources to support the planning and coordination of surgical care and other patient care in the hospital and clinics.
