INTRODUCTION

This role is situated within the Mayor's Office of Talent and Appointments, focusing on effective communication strategies. The Media Relations Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Press Secretary to foster productive relationships with media representatives, ensuring the efficient dissemination of information to the public.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Crafts and employs diverse communication strategies to engage and inform stakeholders about the agency's mission and initiatives. Produces persuasive materials, including brochures, presentations, articles, and digital content, aimed at educating and motivating the public and decision-makers.
  • Maintains positive public relations by monitoring public sentiment towards the agency's image and services. Provides timely information to the media and responds to inquiries regarding the agency's objectives and policies.
  • Designs and implements a comprehensive public information strategy to communicate the agency's programs and services effectively. Collaborates with leadership to set communication goals and objectives.
  • Builds and sustains strong working relationships with media personnel, government officials, and community stakeholders to enhance the agency's visibility and reputation.
  • Coordinates information flow among departmental offices to ensure cohesive communication with media outlets and the public. Addresses media inquiries with detailed and accurate information regarding the agency's operations.
  • Evaluates communication challenges and advises senior leadership on public perceptions and responses related to the agency's initiatives. Assesses communication outcomes and suggests improvements.
  • Develops strategic documents and presentations in support of departmental initiatives and responds to requests from governmental bodies. Creates impactful communication materials for various platforms.
  • Implements strategies to ensure employees have ongoing access to relevant information through newsletters, intranet updates, and other communication channels.
  • Collaborates with the Mayor's Office of Communications to guarantee timely media coverage of significant events and achievements. Determines the most effective communication formats for information dissemination.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • In-depth understanding of the agency's mission, policies, and strategic objectives.
  • Expertise in communication principles and public relations strategies.
  • Strong analytical and creative skills for developing outreach programs and information dissemination strategies.
  • Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and effectively present ideas to various stakeholders.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

New appointees to the Excepted or Executive Service must either be District of Columbia residents at the time of appointment or establish residency within a specified timeframe. Compliance with residency requirements is mandatory for continued employment.
