Job Summary

PathGroup is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist I to perform daily phlebotomy activities with accuracy and timeliness. The ideal candidate will interact with clients, patients, and colleagues in a professional and courteous manner, ensuring a positive experience for all.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect specimens accurately and on time, following established procedures.
  • Explain the phlebotomy process to patients in a clear and courteous manner, reducing anxiety and ensuring a smooth experience.
  • Dispose of biohazard materials and contaminated sharps in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Complete requisitions and enter patient, specimen, and billing information into the computer system with attention to detail.
  • Communicate with clients to confirm orders, verify test information, and obtain accurate billing details.
  • Research test and client information using the lab computer system.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
  • Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperature and protocols.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in proper collection methods and processing of all specimens.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs, including daily records and PSC/IOP Phlebotomy logs.
  • Assist with compilation of monthly statistics and perform basic clerical duties, such as filing, faxing, and preparing mail.
  • Approve time in attendance software and submit accurate expense and travel logs.
  • Adhere to departmental and company code of grooming and dress code policies, appearing neat and clean at all times.
  • Utilize time effectively, maintaining fluctuating patient flow and displaying courteous and professional behavior to clients, patients, and colleagues.
  • Communicate pertinent information and issues to supervisors, managers, or group leaders for resolution.
  • Contribute to a positive work climate and team effort, ensuring facilities are neat, clean, and in good repair.
  • Utilize proper PPE to ensure patient and personal safety, exercising all laboratory safety precautions and adhering to lab procedures.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Phlebotomist Certification preferred (required in Louisiana).
