Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist Laboratory Assistant II to join our team. This individual will be responsible for drawing blood samples from patients of all ages, processing clinical specimens, and maintaining accurate records.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Correctly identify patient age and developmental stage, and communicate effectively with patients and families.
  2. Enter patient demographics, test orders, and billing information into various computer systems.
  3. Collect biological specimens using established SOPs and age-specific techniques.
  4. Perform accurate venipuncture and microtechniques in sample collection.
  5. Label specimens correctly and draw timed/scheduled samples in a timely manner.
  6. Observe patient emotional and physical state for adverse reactions to phlebotomy.
  7. Process biological specimens for analysis, evaluate problems, and implement solutions.
  8. Operate the pneumatic tube system, maintain infection control policies, and distribute specimens to laboratory sections.
  9. Maintain accurate and orderly log records and worksheets.
  10. Keep work areas safe and organized, and demonstrate safe work practices.
  11. Answer phone calls professionally, provide information, and refer callers to appropriate sources.
  12. Research phone inquiries, prepare specimens, and arrange for dispatch and pick-up.
  13. Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies, and communicate needs to reorder.
  14. Assist with instruction of procedures and techniques to other employees and students.
  15. Perform daily temperature checks and preventive maintenance on equipment.
Credentials

Certification as a PBT or MLA by a Board of Certification PBT(ASCP) or MLA(ASCP) is required. Those without certification will be considered Phlebotomy Lab Assistant I.

Education or Equivalent Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Phlebotomy training and experience in an outpatient or hospital setting are preferred.
