Job Summary

The Porter County Public Library System is seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused individual to fill a Library Clerk position within our five-branch system. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, maintaining library collections, and performing various administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collection Maintenance: Perform tasks such as shelving, shifting, shelf reading, and merchandising to ensure the organization and accessibility of library materials.
  • Customer Service: Greet patrons, answer general questions, and provide assistance with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Administrative Tasks: Assist with filing, typing, copying, scanning, sorting, and other duties as assigned.
  • Technology and Software: Learn and use software and technology to effectively carry out job functions, including the integrated library system (ILS).
  • Physical Security and Maintenance: Assist with the physical security of the library and its equipment, as well as perform basic custodial maintenance tasks.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification: Indiana Public Librarian Certification, or the ability to obtain it, is required for professional library staff.
  • Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work with people of all ages.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift and move up to 20 lbs, push or pull at least 100 lbs on wheels, and engage in extensive bending, stooping, pulling, reaching, kneeling, and crouching.

The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a team environment, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain a high level of professionalism and courtesy at all times.
