Key ResponsibilitiesThis role is pivotal in offering expertise and leadership in developing and executing OSHA-required written programs, along with aiding in training development aimed at achieving zero accidents.
The successful candidate will:
- Lead a team in crafting, implementing, promoting, and evaluating site-specific safety programs and procedures, ensuring alignment with corporate policies.
- Collaborate closely with corporate safety and audit functions under the General Counsel.
- Work alongside plant and site managers to guarantee compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and company EHS regulatory requirements, policies, and standards.
- Drive continuous improvements in plant safety and environmental culture.
- Provide safety support during outages and as needed at all Onward facilities.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of site safety programs that meet or exceed corporate safety policies.
- Document and monitor the effectiveness of safety program elements, initiating support and enthusiasm for behavioral change.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including OSHA safety standards.
- Analyze incident data to identify opportunities for hazard reduction and report findings to the Corporate Safety and Audit group.
- Prepare injury reports and lead root cause analysis workgroups to minimize work injuries.
- Implement a risk assessment process to evaluate and measure task-related risks.
- Support site staff in monthly safety meetings and training initiatives.
- Assist in developing and reviewing job hazard analyses for major work phases.
- Conduct site visits and provide support during significant outages.
- Investigate safety-related injuries and near misses, collaborating with plant management to enhance safety measures.
- Review equipment and operational processes for potential safety hazards, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Exemplary standards of conduct and integrity in all interactions.
- Strong writing and presentation skills, with the ability to persuade and promote business initiatives.
- Adaptability to organizational changes and new requirements.
- Sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Proficient in teaching, mentoring, and leading teams.
- Collaborative approach to problem-solving.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- 8+ years of experience managing health and safety systems in heavy industry, preferably in power generation.
- B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health preferred; relevant work experience may substitute for formal education.
- Preferred certifications: CSP, CIH, CHP, or CRSP.
- Experience with PSM and OSHA's VPP is advantageous.
Must be able to meet physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to stand, walk, talk, hear, and possess close and distance vision capability.
- Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Travel required; approximately 30% to 40% of the time.
This position operates in a smoke and vape-free professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment such as laptops, phones, and scanners/photocopiers.
