Position Overview:
The recruitment for this role will conclude once the first 150 applications are received.
This position entails leading and supervising engineering personnel, ensuring the execution of complex engineering tasks, and providing guidance to team members.
Key Responsibilities:
The Lead Civil Engineering Specialist is responsible for managing a variety of functions within the Engineering Division, offering technical support to engineers and technicians.
This role is distinct from the City Engineer, who oversees broader responsibilities within the Public Works Department.
Supervision:
Receives direction from the City Engineer and oversees the training of engineering staff.
- Directs project activities and coordinates with other departments.
- Develops plans and cost estimates for public works projects.
- Provides technical direction and resolves conflicts among staff and developers.
- Prepares project schedules and budgets, along with status reports.
- Reviews technical reports and performs analytical studies.
- Participates in contract administration and ensures compliance with City standards.
- Coordinates with other departments and responds to public inquiries.
- Oversees design and specifications for capital improvement projects.
- Engages with the community and resolves service complaints.
Other Responsibilities:
- May assist with budget preparation for the Engineering Division.
- May provide professional engineering support in Traffic Engineering.
- May conduct traffic studies and prepare reports for various commissions.
- May oversee traffic-related improvements and operations.
Working Conditions:
This position requires a range of physical activities including sitting, standing, and walking, as well as the ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
Work may be performed outdoors in various weather conditions.
Qualifications:
- A combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills for this role.
- Typically requires four years of professional experience in engineering, including supervisory experience, and a degree in civil engineering or a related field.
- Must possess a valid California driver's license and a Civil Engineer registration.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of engineering principles, project management, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Ability to manage engineering projects, respond to community needs, and communicate effectively.
- Skill in using office software and performing complex engineering tasks.
