MISSION STATEMENT: The Sanitation Districts are dedicated to safeguarding public health and the environment through innovative and efficient management of wastewater and solid waste, transforming waste into valuable resources such as recycled water, energy, and reclaimed materials.

The Districts are currently looking to fill positions for Engineering Associate II, III, or Civil/Chemical Engineer within the Wastewater Management Department, specifically in the Industrial Waste Section.


LOCATION:
SOLID WASTE DEPARTMENT, ENERGY RECOVERY ENGINEERING SECTION, JOINT ADMINISTRATION OFFICE,

WHITTIER

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of the Supervising Engineer, the selected candidate will engage in various responsibilities including mechanical and civil engineering tasks related to the design, operation, and upkeep of the Districts' solid waste landfills, material recovery and transfer facilities, and energy generation assets. Duties will also encompass conducting analyses and proposing solutions for technical challenges associated with landfill and digester gas utilization, air emissions monitoring and control, electrical power generation, energy efficiency initiatives, food waste processing, co-digestion, and the exploration of emerging energy technologies. Additionally, the role involves participation in the purchase and sale of electricity, renewable natural gas, and associated products, as well as monitoring regulations pertaining to organics recycling, emissions reduction, and renewable energy initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:
For the Engineering Associate classifications, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

Option A: A bachelor's degree and a master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an accredited institution;
Option B: A bachelor's degree in a related science, an Engineer in Training Certificate, and a master's degree in a pertinent engineering discipline;
Option C: A bachelor's degree in engineering and two years of professional engineering experience post-degree.

For the professional engineer classification, candidates must hold a California Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer and meet one of the following:
Option A: A master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline and three years of professional engineering experience;
Option B: A PhD in a relevant engineering discipline and two years of professional engineering experience;
Option C: Six years of professional engineering experience following the attainment of a bachelor's degree in engineering.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess educational qualifications in mechanical, civil, or environmental engineering, along with professional experience in landfill operations, emissions monitoring and control, renewable natural gas, landfill gas collection and utilization, electrical power generation, and solid waste management compliance.

SELECTION PROCESS:
All applications will undergo a review to ensure compliance with the qualifications for testing. The selection process will include an interview, which will be weighted at 100%. Candidates must achieve a qualifying score on each component of the selection process to advance.
