POSITION: Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)

DEPARTMENT: Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

STATUS: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: EMS Operations Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) is responsible for responding to both emergency and non-emergency calls for ambulance services, providing pre-hospital care and inter-facility medical assistance in accordance with established medical protocols and company policies. This role includes operating emergency vehicles and maintaining communication through two-way radios. The AEMT ensures the safe operation, cleanliness, and upkeep of the ambulance, while also assisting with patient care on-site.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver patient care in alignment with licensure, company policies, and established protocols.
  • Maintain proficiency in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and care standards relevant to the AEMT licensure.
  • Respond to assigned calls efficiently and safely.
  • Complete necessary documentation and secure required signatures for each call by the end of the shift.
  • Utilize supplies and equipment effectively, ensuring proper operation and maintenance.
  • Familiarize oneself with local geography and demonstrate the ability to navigate using maps and grid books.
  • Ensure that the ambulance and equipment are kept in a clean, organized, and ready state after each response.
  • Perform all station duties and maintain a tidy work environment.
  • Adhere to financial and operational guidelines to promote cost-effectiveness and efficient management.
  • Exhibit regular and punctual attendance.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current EMT licensure.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License for a minimum of two years.
  • Minimum age of 19 years.
  • No more than two traffic violations in the past three years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of emergency medical service methods and techniques.
  • Familiarity with local EMS and public safety structures.
  • Knowledge of insurance billing guidelines applicable to ambulance services.
  • Ability to read and comprehend medical terminology.
  • Proficient in writing reports and completing necessary documentation.
  • Capability to foster positive relationships with colleagues and public service personnel.
  • Skill in effectively communicating information regarding patient care and operational matters.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly required to use hands for handling and communication.
  • Frequent standing and walking required.
  • Ability to sit, climb, kneel, or crouch for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift and move weights up to 150 pounds regularly and up to 300 pounds occasionally with assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
  • Ability to assist in patient transfers using a stair chair and stretcher.
  • Must be able to tolerate various environmental conditions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Due to the nature of emergency medical services, employees may encounter inclement weather, hazardous conditions, and exposure to various illnesses. The role requires adaptability to frequent interruptions and changing priorities, with the expectation of attending both scheduled and unscheduled meetings as necessary.
