Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Nursing Technician to join our team at the University of Illinois Chicago. As a Nursing Technician, you will play a vital role in delivering patient care and supporting our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Patient Care: Assist with patient admission, transfer, or discharge as assigned, and support patients by performing activities of daily living, safely operating patient care equipment, promoting skin integrity, and safety measures.
  • Document Patient Information: Document patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), including vital signs, nursing care provided, intake, and output.
  • Patient Advocacy: Act as a patient/family advocate by providing comfort, assistance, and information, and provide feedback to the Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) on patient care and condition as directed.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Demonstrate a commitment to UI Health values through teamwork and effective communication in an effort to achieve quality outcomes, patient safety, customer satisfaction, and a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment.
  • Professional Growth and Development: Participate in organizational, departmental, and shared leadership activities; support department and unit goals in daily behavior; identify recurring clinical practice and/or related unit problems, and participate in problem-solving and resolution.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Certifications: Possession of a CNA license from an accredited institution/school/program, Registered and active in the Illinois Department of Public Health – Health Care Work Registry, and Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit-specific certifications.
  • Skills: Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and healthcare providers, and intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Experience: One (1) to two (2) years of previous hospital experience preferred, with previous psychiatry experience a plus.
