Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Healthcare Access Coordinator plays a pivotal role in enhancing departmental operations, which may encompass various responsibilities such as scheduling, patient registration, pre-admission, admission, reception, and discharge processes. This position requires the collection of comprehensive and precise patient demographic data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service in alignment with established care standards.
  • Complete thorough patient registration at the time of service.
  • Adhere to financial and cash control policies and procedures.
  • Explain and secure necessary hospital and patient legal documentation, including but not limited to Advance Directives and Consent for Treatment.
  • Scan and manage Protected Health Information, and prepare patient information packets for upcoming services.
  • Assist in scheduling diagnostic procedures, entering data into the scheduling system, and providing patients with appointment instructions.
  • Educate patients regarding their financial responsibilities and employ compliant collection techniques throughout the service timeline.
  • Conduct hospital cash reconciliation and secure payment entries in accordance with financial policies.
  • Verify medical necessity and insurance coverage, completing financial clearance activities as assigned.
  • Obtain necessary insurance authorizations for both scheduled and unscheduled services.
  • Facilitate post-discharge care coordination for patients as needed.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Proficient data entry skills.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare processes.
  • Experience in patient registration and scheduling.
  • Understanding of insurance protocols and third-party payor requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC/CRT/printer operations.
  • Knowledge of hospital functions and relationships is preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Completion of a Medical Terminology course is required.
  • Ability to interpret physician orders and insurance documentation accurately.
