Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Survey Party Chief to lead our construction surveying operations. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising surveying activities on construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate surveying activities to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Lead and direct a team of surveyors to achieve project goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with project teams to create schedules and determine sequencing of work.
  • Identify and resolve drawing discrepancies that could affect building layout.
  • Establish baseline building control and work points.
  • Calculate coordinates and layout points based on project documents.
  • Perform as-built surveys and prepare data electronically for submission to clients.
  • Oversee and maintain surveying equipment, including tracking of calibrations.
  • Inventory and order supplies as needed.
  • Ensure security of equipment and work area.
  • Collaborate with EH&S and Quality Control teams to ensure site safety and quality programs.
  • Develop and implement safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Develop and lead training programs for surveyors to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in daily Pre-Task Plans and follow safety expectations for operation of equipment and tools.
  • Develop and implement quality control processes to ensure high-quality surveying work.
  • Track production of completed tasks and review, complete, and submit required documentation.
  • Work closely with Superintendents to resolve local area problems and ensure project success.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and other employees.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction surveying required.
  • Active OSHA 30-hour certification or willingness to pursue certification.
  • Ability to lead, delegate, engage with, and motivate teams.
  • Advanced use of surveying equipment, including builder's level, lasers, laser levels, total stations, and robotic total stations.
  • Proficient in CAD or surveying-based programs.
  • Strong planning and analysis skills.
  • Able to think critically and use good judgment to solve problems.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedule.
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop team members and deliver performance feedback.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel as needed.
