Role Summary:
The Patient Access Representative serves as a vital first point of contact for patients, embodying the highest standards of customer service and compassion. This role is crucial in facilitating the patient's entry into any Mercy facility, encompassing various responsibilities such as scheduling appointments, managing registrations, verifying benefits, and ensuring financial clearance, including pre-visit collections.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately gather and input patient information into the medical record.
- Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance providers, Medicare regulations, and compliance with federal and state guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 1-3 years of clerical and customer service experience is preferred, along with familiarity with medical terminology and insurance plans.
- Education: A high school diploma is required; some college education is advantageous.
- Skills: Strong communication abilities, both verbal and written, are essential. Candidates should possess excellent telephone etiquette and the capability to build positive relationships with patients, healthcare professionals, and insurance representatives.
- Organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail are critical for success in this role.
- Ability to thrive under pressure, meet deadlines, and complete daily tasks with high accuracy.
- Proficiency in various computer systems, including the use of a 10-key calculator and keyboard.
- Physical Requirements: The role necessitates the ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs regularly, along with prolonged standing and walking during shifts. Candidates should be capable of gripping, reaching, bending, kneeling, twisting, and squatting as required.
