Job Overview

Paytronix is a leading cloud-based digital guest engagement platform for the hospitality industry. Our innovative platform provides loyalty programs, online ordering, gift cards, branded mobile applications, and strategic insights to over 1,800 leading restaurant and convenience store brands.

We're seeking a skilled Scala/Java software engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will design and develop new features for our Back End Services and Components in a service-oriented system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new features for Back End Services and Components in a service-oriented system
  • Collaborate with Front End developers, other Back End developers, and database specialists to accomplish development mission
  • Work outside normal business hours to support critical systems and perform deployments
  • Improve software engineering standards and processes by incorporating best practices to the software development/deployment pipeline
  • Work with the Product team to understand customer needs and transform ideas into software
  • Collaborate with customer support and integrations teams on troubleshooting issues in configured programs
  • Work with all teams in Engineering and Operations to maximize system stability and uptime

Requirements

  • 4-5 years of experience in software development with Java code
  • Professional experience building and supporting APIs and other web services/applications
  • Experience with MS SQL Server or other relational databases
  • Understanding of and experience with web technologies: HTTP(S), REST or gRPC, JSON, XML
  • Good knowledge of SQL and working with SQL databases like MS SQL Server
  • Strong knowledge of Git/version control and the software development pipeline
  • Experience articulating questions about requirements and creating complex design specifications
  • Strong collaborative skills and a curiosity/willingness to learn as well as teach
  • Ability to work in our Newton, MA corporate office

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing Scala or similar functional programming language experience
  • Experience with establishing and analyzing API metrics and KPIs
  • Knowledge of DevOps principles for deployment, maintenance, and monitoring
  • Experience working with Unix and/or Linux shell environments
  • Experience writing Unit Tests, especially with JUnit, Scalatest, and Specs2
  • Experience using AWS Services or Azure equivalents
  • Experience working with advanced MS SQL Server features
  • Experience working with NoSQL databases
  • Experience working with Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging
