Job Summary

The Certified Respiratory Therapist position at DCH Health System is responsible for providing respiratory care services to patients of all ages, from neonatal to adult. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of respiratory therapy principles and practices, and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide general respiratory therapy, critical care, and limited diagnostics to patients as needed.
  • Perform and accurately record technical procedures safely, effectively, efficiently, and within scope of policy.
  • Give rationale for actions, decisions, and clinical care, based on scientific principles, clinical practice guidelines, or successful experience.
  • Participate in patient care procedures, including oxygen/aerosol therapy, bronchial hygiene, postural drainage, and more.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans for patients with respiratory conditions.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure effective patient care.
  • Communicate clearly and accurately with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and ability to delegate to team members and students.
  • Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines and achieve outcomes.
  • Adhere to DCH Health System policies and procedures, and participate in ongoing education and professional development.
Requirements
  • Current Alabama licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Active credential of Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) within one year of graduation.
  • Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy, Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Membership in a professional organization such as the American Association for Respiratory Care or Alabama Society for Respiratory Care is strongly encouraged.
  • BCLS provider certification.
  • PALS certification preferred for staff working in the Emergency Department.
  • Ability to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
Working Conditions

This position involves working in a fast-paced hospital environment, with exposure to human fluids, disease, infection, lab chemicals, and hazardous materials. The ideal candidate will be able to tolerate prolonged periods of standing and walking, and be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

The successful candidate will also be able to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams, and demonstrate leadership skills and ability to delegate to team members and students.

This is a full-time position, and the ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a team environment to provide high-quality patient care.
