Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Care Specialist to join our team at Indian Rivers Mental Health Center.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with consumers with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities, and will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide transportation for consumers as needed for appointments and outings.
  • Work assigned shifts, weekends, holidays, and overnight as scheduled.
  • Document BLS groups and all clinical notes in accordance with agency policies.
  • Bathe, feed, dress, and ambulate clients to ensure proper grooming.
  • Conduct food and supplies inventory, and dispose of expired food.
  • Perform general cleaning of facility and janitorial duties as assigned.
  • Conduct client trainings as assigned by supervisor.
  • Pick-up client prescriptions from pharmacy.
  • Accompany clients to appointments and ensure all receipts and monies are returned to supervisor.
  • Cook and provide meals according to diet and posted menu.
  • Maintain communication and awareness of current events by reading memos, e-mails, and bulletin boards.
  • Work independently and/or with teams to complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner with minimum supervision.
  • Support Organizational Code of Conduct, Standards Compliance, HIPAA, and Security Programs by ensuring job tasks are performed in a legal and ethical manner.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with consumers with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
  • One (1) year experience in a mental health setting preferred.
  • Current Alabama driver's license and good driving record as defined by Indian Rivers' policy.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

Working Conditions:

  • Works in residential facilities; may require long hours.
  • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees, consumers, and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment, such as, but not limited to, computer, copier, multi-line phone, and fax machine.
  • Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds and negotiate several sets of stairs in an eight (8) hour shift.
