POSITION OVERVIEW

The Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant (RTA) plays a crucial role in supporting Physical Therapists in delivering effective physical therapy interventions aimed at assisting patients in regaining mobility and alleviating discomfort. The RTA may, in accordance with state regulations, aid in formulating treatment strategies, execute routine tasks, document treatment progress, and adjust specific therapies based on patient condition while adhering to the treatment protocols established by a licensed physical therapist. Additionally, the RTA will foster a collaborative environment with other healthcare professionals and support staff. The primary objective is to achieve or surpass established productivity benchmarks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Duties:

  • Guides, encourages, and ensures the safety of patients during exercise routines or functional tasks. Monitors patients throughout therapy sessions to gather and assess data regarding their responses and advancements, reporting findings to the supervising physical therapist either verbally or through written documentation.
  • Collaborates with physical therapy personnel and other relevant parties to review and assess patient data for the purpose of planning, adjusting, and coordinating treatment approaches. Instructs caregivers and family members on therapeutic activities and care plans for patients.
  • Facilitates patient transportation to and from therapy locations, ensuring proper lifting and transferring techniques are employed according to safety protocols. Secures patients appropriately on therapy apparatus.
  • Administers both active and passive therapeutic exercises, including therapeutic massage, aquatic therapy, and various modalities such as ultrasound, heat, and electrical stimulation.
  • Evaluates patients' joint motion, body measurements, and vital signs to assess treatment effectiveness or for patient assessments.
  • Oversees the functionality of therapy equipment and maintains accurate records of equipment usage and treatment administration.
  • Assists in fitting patients with orthopedic supports, prosthetics, and mobility aids such as crutches.
  • Conducts therapy practices in compliance with established care standards, maintaining professional and ethical integrity.
  • Effectively communicates with other healthcare professionals and support staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Adheres to facility and departmental policies, objectives, quality improvement initiatives, safety protocols, and infection control measures.
  • Documents all relevant information promptly and accurately.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development through educational opportunities, in-service training, and workshops. Stays informed on current professional literature.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of various funding sources and requirements to ensure service reimbursement.
  • Travels between facilities as necessary to deliver patient care.
  • Provides both in-person and telehealth services as appropriate.
  • Follows infection control policies and procedures as mandated by MJ Care and associated facilities.

  • Safely transports and transfers patients as required, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • In emergency situations, assists in the safe evacuation of individuals per disaster protocols.
  • Ensures compliance with TB and flu vaccination requirements for MJ Care and associated facilities.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education Requirements:

  • Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current state licensure and/or certification to practice as a physical therapist assistant in good standing.
  • Valid National Provider Identifier (NPI).

Experience:

  • Preferred experience of 1+ year in a relevant role.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, with the ability to effectively utilize electronic medical records systems.
  • Strong communication abilities, including attentive listening and the capacity to learn.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, time management, and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to address the physical and developmental needs of the patient demographics served.
  • Capability to remain composed in emergency or crisis situations while providing appropriate assistance.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license in the state of residence, with an acceptable driving record, reliable transportation, and proof of valid auto insurance as per state regulations.

ACCESS TO PERSONAL HEALTH INFORMATION

Responsible for safeguarding access to Personal Health Information pertinent to assigned patients for purposes of screenings, consultations, evaluations, mandatory meetings, chart audits, payment, and healthcare operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role requires frequent communication, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, balancing, and lifting up to 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities include the ability to read documents and observe the work environment. Hearing capabilities must allow for effective communication in a moderately loud setting. The position involves exposure to biohazards and requires the use of protective equipment, including gowns, gloves, and face protection.
