Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant (RTA) plays a crucial role in supporting Physical Therapists in delivering effective physical therapy interventions aimed at helping patients restore mobility and alleviate discomfort. The RTA may, in accordance with applicable regulations, assist in formulating treatment strategies, execute routine tasks, document patient progress, and adjust specific therapies based on patient condition while adhering to treatment protocols established by a licensed physical therapist. Additionally, the RTA will foster collaborative relationships with other healthcare professionals and support staff. The primary objective is to achieve or surpass established productivity benchmarks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Core Duties:
- Guides, encourages, and assists patients during exercise routines or functional tasks. Monitors patients throughout therapy sessions to gather and assess data regarding their responses and advancements, providing feedback to the physical therapist either directly or through documented progress notes.
- Collaborates with physical therapy personnel and other stakeholders to review and assess patient information for treatment planning, adjustments, and coordination. Instructs caregivers and family members on therapeutic activities and care plans for patients.
- Facilitates patient transport to and from therapy locations, ensuring safe lifting and transferring in accordance with positioning protocols. Secures patients appropriately on therapy apparatus.
- Administers both active and passive therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, aquatic therapy, and various modality treatments such as ultrasound, heat, and electrical stimulation.
- Evaluates patients' joint motion, body measurements, and vital signs to assess treatment effectiveness or for evaluation purposes.
- Monitors equipment functionality and maintains accurate records of equipment usage and treatment administration.
- Assists in fitting patients with orthopedic supports, prosthetic devices, and mobility aids like crutches.
- Conducts therapy practices within established care standards while upholding professional and ethical guidelines.
- Communicates effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Adheres to facility and departmental policies, objectives, quality improvement initiatives, safety protocols, and infection control measures.
- Documents patient interactions and treatment details promptly and accurately.
- Engages in professional development through educational programs, in-service training, and workshops, while staying informed on relevant literature.
- Maintains knowledge of various funding sources and requirements to ensure service reimbursement.
- Travels between facilities as necessary to deliver patient care.
- Provides in-person or telehealth services as appropriate.
- Follows infection control policies and practices as mandated by MJ Care and the assigned facility.

- Complies with TB and flu vaccination requirements for MJ Care and associated facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
- Current state licensure and/or certification to practice as a physical therapist assistant in good standing.
- Valid National Provider Identifier (NPI).
Experience:
- Preferred experience of 1+ year in a relevant setting.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, with the ability to efficiently utilize electronic medical records systems.
- Strong communication abilities, including focus, learning aptitude, and active listening skills.
- Effective problem-solving, organizational, time management, and mathematical skills.
- Capable of interacting professionally with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Knowledgeable in addressing the physical and developmental needs of diverse patient populations.
- Ability to remain composed in emergency or crisis situations and provide necessary support.
- Possesses a valid driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance as per state regulations.
ACCESS TO PERSONAL HEALTH INFORMATION
Ensures the protection of Personal Health Information specific to assigned patients for purposes of screenings, consultations, evaluations, and related healthcare operations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this role, the associate frequently engages in verbal communication and auditory tasks; stands and walks; bends or kneels; squats, balances, or crawls; reaches overhead; pushes, pulls, or twists up to 100 lbs; navigates stairs; lifts or carries up to 100 lbs, and occasionally more. Specific vision capabilities required include the ability to read documents, view computer screens, and observe the work environment. Hearing abilities must accommodate a moderately loud work setting (open area with multiple conversations). The role includes exposure to biohazards (e.g., bloodborne pathogens) and may involve working in confined spaces with equipment not suitable for pacemakers. Use of protective gear, including gowns, gloves, and face shields, is required.
