At Soho House, a Culinary Specialist I plays a vital role in maintaining the efficiency of the kitchen, expertly preparing dishes and sauces, and supporting Senior Chefs during service. As a Culinary Specialist I, you excel in high-pressure settings and positively impact your teammates, helping to maintain composure during peak service times.

A successful Culinary Specialist I is an essential part of the team, equipped with a diverse and specialized skill set, demonstrating the ability to execute all menu items flawlessly from preparation to presentation, ensuring top-quality dishes are delivered from every station.

Key Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly knowledgeable about all menu offerings and capable of consistently producing high-quality dishes in fast-paced and demanding environments across all stations.
  • Daily tasks include preparing food items in various kitchen areas, including the pantry and fry station, while accommodating allergy requests and specific dish modifications.
  • Assist with inventory management to support the kitchen in maintaining sustainable food costs.
  • Set up workstations according to kitchen standards, ensuring a safe, clean, organized, and well-stocked environment.
  • Monitor waste, cooking temperatures, and quality to minimize additional costs, educating others on how product costs affect the company's profit and loss.
  • Execute production and a-la-carte dishes, including weekend feast ideas and family-style meals.
  • Delegate tasks as necessary while ensuring adherence to proper procedures for clocking in and out for shifts and breaks.
  • Support Executive Sous and Junior Sous Chefs with pre and post-service meetings as required.
  • Work towards specific objectives and uphold Soho House Standards for service speed and consistency; 3-8-10.
  • Act as a positive influence for the team under pressure, fostering a welcoming work atmosphere that enhances staff morale.
  • Participate in "Cook House" training sessions and assist in mentoring and educating new and existing team members in their areas of interest.
  • Contribute to the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of the kitchen, walk-in coolers, and all storage areas.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to providing exceptional service and food knowledge.

Essential Skills/Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a fast-paced, upscale, and approachable professional environment.
  • Strong understanding of culinary techniques and knife skills.
  • Proven ability to execute all menu items and prepare and deliver high-quality dishes across all stations.
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Food handler's certification.
  • Strong communicator, collaborator, and motivator with the ability to build professional relationships with all leaders and kitchen staff.
  • Proactive team player who can work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Possess a level of creativity to develop recipes from scratch, preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to seize, grasp, turn, and hold objects with hands.
  • Must be able to stand for at least 8-10 hours.
  • Fast-paced movements are necessary to navigate between different areas of the kitchen and storage.
  • Must be able to move, pull, carry, or lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 35 pounds regularly.
  • Occasional exposure to cold, heat, and water.
  • Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch, and climb as required.
