Internship - Teaching Assistant for Refugee Education

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in delivering English language, literacy, and fundamental classroom skills to empower refugee learners.
- Contribute to the development of educational resources.
- Support the team with various administrative duties.
- Participate in initial assessments for new clients as needed.
- Help maintain communication with clients.
- Collaborate with tutors weekly to design lesson plans.
- Travel between the office and tutoring locations.
- Support instruction for both small and large groups of students of varying ages and skill levels.
- Follow the lesson plans established by the tutors.
- Assist with pre- and post-assessments.
- Record attendance accurately.
- Engage with clients in person and via phone, utilizing interpreters when necessary.
- Input required documentation into the database for funders.
- Foster professional relationships with school personnel and volunteers.
- Punctually attend all scheduled commitments.
- Communicate any concerns regarding students to the team promptly.
- Interact with refugee families in a culturally sensitive manner.
- This is a part-time, unpaid role.
- A commitment of at least 10 hours per week is required, along with at least one semester remaining in your academic program.
- In-person tutoring is essential, with collaboration occurring on-site.
- Regular office hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with potential for flexible scheduling based on program needs.
- For interns during the spring and fall semesters, participation in two after-school tutoring sessions from 3:00-6:00 pm is required. Availability for two of the following time slots is necessary: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. Other scheduling options may be discussed.
- For summer interns, tutoring schedules are more adaptable, with morning and afternoon sessions available.
- High School Diploma is mandatory.
- Currently enrolled in a college program.
- Willingness to learn about diverse cultures.
- Must possess reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and liability insurance.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- A belief in the possibility of ending poverty is crucial.
