Position Summary:

The Backup Shift Leader in Manufacturing plays a crucial role in supporting the Shift Leader and overseeing the production team. This position involves monitoring production quality and efficiency, addressing machine and mold requirements, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols on the production floor. In the absence of the Shift Leader, the Backup Shift Leader will manage daily operations and provide constructive feedback to enhance team performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and guide activities within the production area.
  • Coach, assess, train, and inspire team members.
  • Ensure optimal productivity and quality relative to resource utilization.
  • Maintain compliance with established safety regulations.
  • Uphold cleanliness and organization standards in the workplace.
  • Interpret and execute the production schedule effectively.
  • Conduct product quality inspections at regular intervals and document findings.
  • Allocate work order packages to appropriate workstations as needed.
  • Verify the quality of the first production piece and document the inspection.
  • Ensure all team members have the necessary tools for safe and efficient work.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Supervisory Duties: Yes – responsible for leading a team of 30 or fewer employees, including Contract To Hire and Seasonal staff.

Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience in a production leadership role, preferably in a plastics manufacturing environment.
  • A high school diploma is required; a technical or relevant degree is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and intermediate computer skills are essential.
  • Strong organizational, motivational, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
