POSITION SUMMARY


The Community Engagement Specialist is pivotal in enhancing our outreach and influence by implementing educational initiatives and cultivating collaborations.

This position is vital for increasing awareness about issues related to sexual violence and the resources we provide, particularly within our targeted regions.

The Community Engagement Specialist aims to establish robust partnerships with pertinent nonprofits, businesses, and governmental entities.

They will also contribute to the creation and execution of outreach strategies that are culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate for diverse audiences, while assessing the success of these outreach activities.

This role includes a concentrated effort on outreach to communities that are disproportionately affected by sexual violence yet are less inclined to seek assistance.


PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Enhance understanding of the organization’s mission and services, as well as the underlying causes and dynamics of sexual violence through outreach efforts, presentations, informational tours, workshops, tabling events, printed materials, and digital content.
  • Increase the number of individuals utilizing services as per strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community members in a cooperative and respectful manner to strengthen relationships.
  • Represent the organization at public speaking events, media engagements, and community meetings as needed.
  • Regularly review outreach materials for cultural relevance, inclusivity, accuracy, and alignment with current research and best practices.
  • Partner with the PREA Coordinator and leadership to enhance outreach and engagement with PREA programs, ensuring formerly incarcerated survivors are informed about available services.
  • Work with internal teams to develop traditional and social media content that highlights the organization’s services.
  • Provide crisis intervention, case management, referrals, and support to survivors of sexual violence while representing the organization at public events.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with staff, volunteers, and community stakeholders.
  • Ensure outreach services comply with relevant confidentiality laws and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records while ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Respond to community needs and partner inquiries while adhering to legal and grant requirements.
  • Uphold a professional image and demeanor while representing the organization at public events and in media interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in community outreach or a combination of relevant practical and academic experience.

  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish.
  • Familiarity with local resources and community partnerships.
  • Exceptional skills in project management, communication, public speaking, writing, and interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.

PREFERRED BACKGROUND

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • Bilingual or multilingual capabilities in English and Spanish.
  • Insight into the micro, mezzo, and macro effects of sexual violence.
  • Experience in outreach and education with marginalized populations (e.g., LGBTQI+, unhoused individuals, undocumented immigrants, Black, Indigenous, and other people of color).

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

  • Completion of all onboarding paperwork by the end of the first workday is required.
  • A criminal background check must be successfully completed.
  • Instructions for obtaining the background check will be provided by the operations team.
  • This process includes uploading a state-issued ID and scheduling an appointment for fingerprinting.
  • Note that there may be a delay in scheduling fingerprint appointments due to safety protocols.
  • Staff members may only work alone with clients after the background check has been reviewed.
  • A 40-hour crisis counselor certification must be obtained within 120 days of employment.
  • A probationary period of 90 days will be observed, followed by a performance evaluation.
  • Compliance with vaccination policies is mandatory.
  • Commitment to the organization's mission and values, including anti-racism, is essential.
