Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee cost-saving initiatives and material optimization projects related to the thermal management systems for battery electric locomotives.
  • Utilize established cost reduction methodologies such as Functional Analysis System Technique (FAST) and Should Cost Analysis to identify feasible projects.
  • Implement cost reduction projects in accordance with the organization's design review protocols.
  • Collaborate with the Sourcing and Manufacturing teams to brainstorm and strategize the execution of cost-saving projects for locomotives.
  • Select appropriate metallic and non-metallic materials for coolant piping, connections, and support structures.
  • Develop Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Verification and Validation plans pertinent to the project.
  • Conduct validation activities or assist in validation efforts related to the project in designated laboratories, adhering to company procedures.
Additional Design Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage cost reduction projects, encompassing design, analysis, validation, and production launch phases for locomotives.
  • Work closely with both internal and external suppliers to address product change requests, quality issues, and provide shop support.
  • Assist manufacturing and supply chain operations to enhance manufacturability and manage updates to drawings and models to resolve issues or implement enhancements.
  • Handle defined tasks or projects of moderate to high complexity, following an individual work plan and achieving short-term objectives.
  • Support multiple assignments by establishing, maintaining, and adhering to appropriate priorities.
  • Prepare and present technical information to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Document and communicate the outcomes of technical data generated through testing or analysis.
  • Participate in teams assigned to tackle specific organizational initiatives.
  • Encourage information sharing and promote open communication.
  • Prepare invention disclosures to safeguard technologies that provide a competitive edge to the organization.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in mechanical engineering, particularly with liquid-cooled thermal management systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in liquid-cooled thermal management, including component specification, selection, and design.
  • Experience in designing piping systems for engine cooling, power electronics cooling, or battery cooling systems, with knowledge of packaging requirements for high voltage equipment.
  • Familiarity with heat transfer principles including conduction, natural convection, and forced convection applications.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD modeling tools.
  • Experience with finite element analysis tools for mechanical loads, such as Ansys.
  • Ability to work in and around large ground transportation equipment within a heavy industrial manufacturing and laboratory environment.
  • Capable of setting up instrumentation and test apparatus, conducting validation testing on large industrial transportation and mining vehicles.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

The compensation range provided is the base hourly pay range that Aditi Consulting anticipates for this position, with potential variations based on factors such as qualifications, skills, experience, location, and client requirements.
