Position: Locomotive Design and Assembly Engineer

Role Summary:

The selected candidate will oversee the engineering and technical aspects of assigned projects, ensuring they meet the defined scope, are delivered on time, and adhere to quality and compliance standards. This role requires collaboration with various departments and local suppliers to successfully execute projects. A robust engineering background with experience in managing manufacturing and assembly initiatives is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support locomotive rebuilding operations, focusing on materials, manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
  • Participate in daily operational discussions and address technical inquiries as they arise.
  • Communicate relevant issues to the broader engineering team as necessary.
  • Assist in identifying replacements for obsolete or problematic components.
  • Address assembly challenges in the workshop, including fit-ups and additional work scopes.
  • Inspect locomotives in the workshop to resolve design and material inquiries.
  • Assist in troubleshooting reliability issues and technical problems with sub-suppliers.
  • Help resolve discrepancies in Bill of Materials across different engine models.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Comprehensive understanding of locomotive systems integration.
  • Hands-on experience with locomotives and related mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with Oracle MRP data systems.
  • Proficient in root cause analysis and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Experience with shop practices including machining, fabrication, piping, and wiring.
  • Knowledge of wear and failure mechanisms along with common repair techniques.
  • High energy levels and a strong sense of accountability.
  • Ability to provide quick and effective solutions.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Educational Background:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering (preferably Mechanical or Industrial) or equivalent experience in a technical capacity.
