Job Summary:

This position plays a vital role in ensuring the financial well-being of patients undergoing oncology treatment at Banner Health's Multi-Specialty Oncology Clinic. As a Patient Financial Advocate, you will work closely with patients, families, and healthcare teams to resolve financial concerns and provide exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial counseling to patients and their families, explaining company policies and available resources.
  • Assist patients in completing financial assistance paperwork and obtaining financial reimbursement for oncology services.
  • Act as a liaison between patients, the billing department, and payers to resolve outstanding issues and maximize service excellence.
  • Communicate with clinical teams and outside entities to ensure patient needs are met.
  • Research and resolve patient concerns, collaborating with team members to provide effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with social services to offer advice on lodging, transportation, and local attractions for patients and families.
  • Obtain and track grants from outside foundations, generating reports to identify expiring or exhausted grants and facilitating reapplication as needed.
  • Review system reports for billing compliance and accuracy, communicating with staff to correct discrepancies and resolve documentation problems.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Knowledge of patient financial services or financial service processes, typically acquired through one or more years of work experience in hospital customer service and/or medical billing or related experience.
  • Strong organizational abilities, proficiency in professional customer service, oral and written communications, accurate and efficient keyboarding, and strong competencies in common office software applications.
  • Effective teamwork skills and the ability to meet deadlines and productivity standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.
  • Work experience with Banner Health's systems and processes.
  • Previous cash collections experience.
