Job Overview

The Western Digital System Integration Test (SIT) Lab is on the lookout for a seasoned engineer with over eight years of expertise to fill the role of Performance Characterization Test Engineer. Our SIT Lab is dedicated to conducting comprehensive testing on Western Digital's full range of enterprise storage solutions. This environment fosters collaboration among engineers, Development teams, Customer Technical Support, Marketing, and Clients.

This role will concentrate on the testing of Hard Disk Drives (HDD) and their interoperability within a continuously operating testing framework.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in performance evaluation of Western Digital storage devices.
  • Collaborate closely with development engineering and customer support to guarantee product design quality and seamless operation within customer systems.
  • Configure testing systems, monitor, and analyze drive logs, performance metrics, system logs, and bus signals to assess testing progress.
  • Identify, analyze, and document issues as they arise. Responsibilities may include developing and maintaining test scripts and automation.
  • Create test schedules, compile detailed performance reports, and effectively communicate status updates both verbally and in writing.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science, accompanied by eight or more years of relevant professional experience, particularly in managing complex computer systems.
  • Proven ability to conduct in-depth failure and performance data analysis and independently troubleshoot hardware and software issues to ascertain root causes.
  • Capability to adapt to spontaneous test scheduling and reallocation of testing resources as needed.
Skills:
  • Proficient in data analysis.
  • Experience with Windows and UNIX/Linux server storage environments.
  • Familiarity with application-level scripting/programming (Perl, Tcl, Python, etc.).
  • Understanding and debugging of interface protocols (SATA, SAS).
  • Willingness to tackle complex challenges and conduct thorough investigations.
  • Strong organizational skills and foresight in planning.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Comfortable discussing technical subjects with both customers and internal teams.
