Job Summary

The University of Rochester seeks a highly skilled Sr Systems Engineer, CIRC to manage and administer advanced on-premise and cloud-based computing, networking, and storage for research. This role requires specialized skills for managing advanced computing architectures, high-speed network technology, and massive parallel file systems engineered for high-volume and high-velocity data for research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead analysis of research use case requirements, design solutions, and deployment of on premise or cloud based advanced infrastructure for University-wide research computing.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain systems that require creative assembly of specialized computing, advanced network, and parallel file system infrastructure.
  • Lead proactive performance monitoring of high performance computing and supporting resources, including analysis, alerting, reporting, and tuning of computational accelerators, high-bandwidth and low-latency networks, parallel file systems, and scheduling/resource management software.
  • Lead the creation, review, and maintenance of technical documentation, including solution designs and reference guides for institutional-wide research computing infrastructure.
  • Maintain a broad knowledge of advanced technology, specialized equipment, and security and research compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline such as Computer Science, Business, Data Science, Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7 years of related experience required.
  • Experience leading a team of System Engineers preferred.
  • Experience in higher education or a healthcare environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of high-performance computing hardware and software required.
  • Experience with research networking and research storage solutions required.
  • Expertise with virtualization technology and cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and exemplary speaking and presentation skills required.
