Job Description and Duties

Under the supervision of the Principal Safety Engineer (Industrial) with the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Research and Standards Occupational Safety Unit, the Associate Safety Engineer (Construction) is responsible for performing independently the full range of professional journey level safety engineering work related to cranes used in lifting service in construction and general industry within the jurisdiction of the Crane Unit of the Cal/OSHA program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct safety inspections and certification audits of various types of cranes including tower, mobile, bridge and gantry cranes to identify hazards and ensure their safe operation.
  • Perform all work in accordance with Department of Industrial Relations DIR-DOSH policies, DOSH Compliance Policy and Procedure Manual, Directives, and Memorandums.
  • Work in the field and in the office under various working conditions, including working outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions, remaining stationary at a desk, and moving about on slopes, uneven, rough, wet, and/or slippery surfaces/terrain.
  • Constantly operate computers and other office productivity machinery, such as calculators, keyboards, computer mouse, laptops, phones, copy/scan/print machine and others.
  • Travel via private, State vehicle, or public transportation, including overnight travel inside California may be required.

This position is located at the Division of Occupational Safety and Health, Research & Standards Safety Crane Unit, 3419 Broadway Street, Suite H8, American Canyon, CA.
