Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead technician responsible for the upkeep and advancement of the Laboratory's LMR systems, including all Motorola portable, mobile, and K-Core equipment. This includes performing system programming, creating diagrams, and preparing system design documentation in line with industry standards.
  • Implement best practices according to Motorola's R56 guidelines for infrastructure and subscriber installations. Identify areas for improvement and provide recommendations to the ESRMG Group Supervisor.
  • Collaborate with the JPL Spectrum Manager to maintain licenses for Protective Services Division Frequencies and mutual aid programming agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with NTIA- and FCC-mandated standards for narrow banding and signal modulation on utilized frequencies.
  • Oversee all Satellite systems utilized by the Protective Services Division and related departments, including handheld and portable data platforms, as well as Emergency Operations Center systems.
  • Conduct monthly testing of all LMR and Satellite systems, addressing any issues identified during testing to guarantee optimal performance. Prepare detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the ESRMG Group Supervisor.
  • Identify, propose, advocate for, and implement enhancements for LMR systems.
  • Work proactively with Automatic and Mutual Aid partner agencies to ensure current programming and fleet mapping for subscriber equipment.
  • Draft and recommend mutual aid agreements with partner agencies for the ESRMG Group Supervisor's review.
  • Establish an equipment replenishment schedule and monitor equipment lifecycle to ensure a robust replacement program.
  • Utilize electronics knowledge to interpret and apply electronic diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Assist in the installation and maintenance of other moderately complex security equipment and electronic systems as required.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the Laboratory as necessary.
  • Work alongside other members of the Electronic Security and Risk Mitigation Group to ensure the seamless operation of related security systems and equipment.

Qualifications:

  • A High School diploma with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; an Associate's degree with at least 4 years of experience; or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 1 year of experience, along with relevant training.
  • A solid understanding of installation, maintenance, and systems, particularly with a focus on Motorola systems.
  • Proficient in assessing and troubleshooting equipment issues, with the ability to repair or determine if equipment requires off-site servicing.
  • Detailed knowledge of installing cable runs, cable splice/terminations, and connecting equipment to existing electronic infrastructures.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong skills in MS Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, along with familiarity with Visio, Paint, or CAD software.
