Cleveland-Cliffs Steel is seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Engineer to join our team at our Riverdale, Illinois operation. As a key member of our safety team, you will play a critical role in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for our employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective safety policies and procedures to minimize risks and prevent injuries and illnesses.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with management and employees to promote a culture of safety and health, and provide training and guidance on safety protocols and procedures.
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Stay up-to-date with changing regulations and industry best practices, and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and standards.
  • Develop and maintain safety training programs to ensure employees have the knowledge and skills needed to perform their jobs safely.
  • Work closely with the safety manager and other stakeholders to develop and implement a comprehensive safety and health plan.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a safety and health role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to safety and health.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Certification in a safety-related field, such as CIH or CSP.
  • Experience working in a union environment.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 certification requirements.
