Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to line managers and supervisors on safety-related matters.
  • Sustain existing management systems to ensure effective execution of the Safety and Health Plan.
  • Drive injury and fatality prevention efforts and conduct hazard assessments.
  • Provide technical expertise in new equipment and facility development.
  • Inspect facilities to identify and correct potential hazards.
  • Utilize and instruct others in the Cleveland-Cliffs Steel Safety and Health program.
  • Participate in incident investigations to identify root causes and provide recommendations.
  • Maintain technical expertise and counsel management on applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Interact with safety representatives and outside contractors.
  • Develop and coordinate safety training and seminars.
  • Compile and analyze statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or significant experience in the field.
  • Excellent communication, team building, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Self-motivated with minimal direction required for day-to-day operations.
  • Excellent PC skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • 3 years' experience in a safety and health position.
  • Some shift and weekend work is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or similar.
  • Related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Successful track record working with a represented workforce in a heavy industrial setting.
  • Knowledge of safety and health policies, including OSHA regulations.
  • Understanding of ISO 45001 certification requirements.
  • 5+ years of experience in an industrial safety and health position.
  • Safety Certification: CIH, CSP, ASP, etc.
