POSITION OVERVIEW

The Patient Authorization Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth registration of patients and the verification of insurance details. This position involves accurately completing patient registrations for upcoming services, maintaining the integrity of encounters by selecting the correct billing codes, and verifying patient demographics and insurance information. Collaboration with healthcare providers and clinic staff is essential to gather specific clinical data necessary for obtaining authorizations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct patient registration for various services, ensuring all information is complete and accurate.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and gather detailed benefit information.
  • Document specifics related to insurance coverage and referrals from both internal and external sources.
  • Work closely with clinical staff to collect required clinical information for authorization purposes.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A High School diploma or GED is necessary, along with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a similar role.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

Candidates must possess strong customer service abilities and proficient computer skills. A solid understanding of CPT and ICD coding is essential.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Experience in a hospital or physician office setting, or a background in the insurance industry focusing on claims and authorizations is advantageous.
