The University Of Iowa is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Hospitalist Physician Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our inpatient malignant hematology service, you will provide exceptional patient care and work closely with our attending physicians to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Job Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team of healthcare professionals dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care in a fast-paced hospital setting. As a Clinical Hospitalist Physician Assistant, you will be responsible for providing medical care and management for patients with leukemia and lymphoma, exercising autonomy in your services provided.

You will plan, deliver, and evaluate the healthcare required by your patients, consistent with accreditation guidelines. Your focus will be on caring for hospitalized patients to maximize resource utilization while providing personalized care.

You will perform bone marrow biopsies at the bedside and in the ambulatory surgery center, as well as lumbar punctures with and without intrathecal chemotherapy administration, and skin biopsies. You will also evaluate patients and perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
  • Provide overall medical care and medical management under the direction of the attending physician, exercising independence in medical decision-making and services provided primarily in an inpatient setting.
  • Perform and document initial evaluations of new and returning patients, admissions, and subsequent care for inpatients, including complete history and physical examination and appropriate orders for treatment.
  • Collaborate/consult in the optimization of care delivery through coordination and transitions of care as part of a team.
  • Use judgment to provide continuity of care incorporating best practices and encouraging others to do the same.
Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat medical conditions and record findings in the electronic medical record.
  • Discuss testing and treatment options and associated risks, benefits, and limitations with patients and families to assist them in making informed decisions.
  • Utilize technology to update personal knowledge regarding current knowledge in the field and maintain knowledge of accrediting bodies' expectations.
  • Coordinate or deliver services to patients requiring continuing care and refer patients to appropriate clinicians as indicated.
  • Evaluate, treat, and institute procedures as training and privileging allow.
  • Complete written medical record documentation, including admission notes, inpatient patient progress notes, and hospital discharge summary.
  • C coordinate discharge planning process and appropriate post-discharge follow-up care.
  • Facilitate communication with internal and external healthcare providers, as directed by the attending physician.

$120,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
