Job Summary

The Career Coach provides support and career guidance services to help participants reach their employment goals. This role involves conducting diagnostic testing, providing information on occupations with clear career paths, and counseling participants on eligible training providers and specialized training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to ensure alignment of employment goals and develop individual employment plans.
  • Provide information on occupations with clear career paths in high-growth industry sectors.
  • Counsel participants on eligible training providers and specialized training.
  • Provide comprehensive case management, including transferable skills assessment, employment and training plan development, job development, and referrals to other social service programs.
  • Engage participants in job readiness activities and facilitate work skills training workshops and activities.
  • Research career paths that enhance participants' existing skills and assist participants in writing targeted resumes.
  • Track participant progress, including job placement, wages, and retention.
  • Attend all City mandatory trainings and meetings.
  • Travel to other JVS SoCal managed offices and JVS SoCal's corporate office as needed.
  • Maintain accurate participant data in internal and State databases through data entry and comprehensive case notes.
  • Meet contract goals for job placement, training completion, and job retention.
  • Develop working relationships with other agencies providing holistic service delivery.
  • Contribute to the development of new grants and funding opportunities.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working in direct customer service with the ability to manage a diverse client population with varied barriers toward employment.
  • Ability to take initiative to research information for job seeker clients.
  • Passion for working and connecting with participants.
  • Strong customer service and counseling expertise with the ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to write professional resumes utilizing participants' transferable skills.
  • Knowledge of the labor market, technology-based career search methods, social media, employer and business needs, and requirements.
  • Understanding and ability to teach the value of networking.
  • Timeliness and attention to detail are essential.
  • Ability to take initiative and work as part of a team towards unit goals.
  • Knowledge of WIOA common measures and requirements is helpful.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Assertive, approachable, friendly, empathetic, and willing to work flexible hours to meet objectives and goals.
  • Degree in social work, career counseling, or other related fields (may be substituted for experience).
  • Background and experience in case management and/or career counseling are preferred.
  • Prior WIOA experience is preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or other community-based language is preferred but not required.
