Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Planning Director to join our team at Franklin County. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing planning programs, providing planning recommendations, and supervising assigned personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Planning and Development: Develop and implement planning programs, provide planning recommendations, and supervise assigned personnel.
  • Land Use Planning: Interpret and apply land use regulations, review and approve subdivision applications, and review final subdivision plats for compliance with all regulations.
  • Policy and Procedure Development: Monitor and maintain compliance with State mandates and County policy and growth objectives regarding planning, permitting, and development.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Provide information and assistance to developers, the general public, the media, and outside agencies related to planning and zoning policies and ordinances.
  • Budget Management: Prepare and administer the Department's budget, monitor departmental expenditures, and review and approve purchase orders.
  • Supervision and Training: Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel, monitor staff for compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Project Management: Conduct and/or supervise the work on land use projects, prepare and provide planning recommendations.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Planning, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of experience in planning or public sector development services, some previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Skills: Knowledge of County and department policies and procedures, planning operations, policies, and procedures, land use, transportation, and utility planning principles, County codes and ordinances, regulations governing growth management and environmental planning, processes for preparing and administering budgets, supervisory principles, practices, and methods.
