Job Summary

The Computer Technician, District 75 is a critical role that requires a high level of technical expertise and independent initiative. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting complex computer systems, networks, and infrastructure in a standalone and/or network environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair computer hardware and software components, including servers, workstations, and peripherals.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to computer systems, networks, and infrastructure.
  • Manage and maintain Local Area Network (LAN) infrastructure, including patching at IDF and MDFs as necessary.
  • Support and manage Claris FileMaker servers and deploy FileMaker applications onto user workstations.
  • Manage Windows Print server for the D75 Superintendent's office.
  • Supervise the installation of computers and instructional programs as required.
  • Provide technical supervision and serve as a technical resource person in the diagnosis and correction of computer and peripheral hardware problems.
  • Provide failure analysis in the event of systems failure in a complex computer environment.
  • Serve as IDMS Manager responsible for providing access to various NYCPS systems.
  • Maintain computer hardware inventory for the D75 Superintendent's Office.
  • Coordinate the integration of hardware from outside vendors.
  • Support D75 Office and BCO staff with computer technology, resolving any technological issues.
  • Maintain D75 Active Directory (AD) distribution lists and group memberships.
  • Serve as a point of contact with DIIT with respect to technology tickets entered for the D75 Superintendent's Office.
  • Support D75 schools with respect to technology issues.
Qualification Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in mainframe computer, mid-range computer, LAN or WAN computer environments, and/or local desktop support. Alternatively, the candidate may possess an associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time experience, or a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time experience.

Professional and/or vendor certification may be required for appointment to certain positions. If required, such certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the software and hardware used by NYC.
  • Familiarity with the NYCPS network operating system.
  • Knowledgeable of and uses state-of-the-art test instruments and equipment.
  • Experience managing local area network infrastructure.
  • Experience in PowerShell.
  • Experience providing computer hardware technical support.
  • Successful experience working in a customer service environment.
Salary

The salary for this position is $80,322 - $92,371. Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.
