To realize our ambitious goals, we are committed to expanding our Data Science & Analytics team to make a significant impact on our patients and healthcare providers. Our Data Science professionals work in close collaboration with Product & Engineering teams to address the most pressing and influential challenges in retail pharmacy, particularly focusing on optimizing prescription processing and ensuring dispensing accuracy. Data Scientists are accountable for the entire lifecycle of model development, from ideation and prototyping to testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance. Your expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP), reinforcement learning, and large language models will be essential in driving innovation and enhancing the efficiency and precision of our supply chain.

Your Role and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a thought leader in the machine learning domain, continually identifying opportunities to enhance intelligence and automate prescription processing while upholding the highest patient safety standards.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain statistical and machine learning solutions utilizing NLP, generative AI, and reinforcement learning techniques.
  • Advance our operational efficiency by consistently refining and enhancing our algorithms and models.
  • Work closely with product managers, software engineers, data scientists, and pharmacists to thoroughly understand Alto's business requirements and create impactful machine learning applications.
  • Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Guide junior data scientists and contribute to the establishment of best practices within the Data Science team.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Economics.
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a Data Scientist, or a BA/BS degree in a quantitative field with at least seven years of experience in the same role.
  • Proven experience in developing machine learning models that deliver business value and deploying ML/AI solutions into production.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in NLP, large language models, generative AI, and/or reinforcement learning.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, along with a high level of proficiency in SQL and machine learning tools (e.g., scikit-learn, XGBoost, Keras/TensorFlow).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey insights derived from complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, with a focus on actionable insights; a passion for uncovering insights and motivating others to act on them.
  • Expertise in project management principles and applying data-driven prioritization and decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Economics.
  • Experience in the healthcare or pharmaceutical sectors.
  • Familiarity with supply chain optimization, marketplaces, or logistics.
  • Proficiency in utilizing cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure, and employing toolkits such as Kubeflow.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow simple oral and written instructions in English.
  • Close visual acuity is required for tasks such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, and extensive reading.
  • Effective communication skills for conveying detailed or important spoken instructions accurately.
  • Ability to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels, with or without correction, and to receive detailed information through oral communication.
  • Frequent repetitive motions may be required to operate a computer or phone.
  • Occasional exposure to varying environmental conditions, including temperature changes and outdoor elements.
  • Physical activities may include ascending or descending stairs, moving about to accomplish tasks, and adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $157,600 - $197,000

Commission Eligible: No

Equity Eligible: Yes

Travel: Required up to 10% of the time
