POSITION: Secondary Business and Marketing Educator

Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a distinguished urban educational institution that caters to a diverse student body of approximately 22,000 learners, representing over 60 languages spoken in their homes. Our district is proud to include Sumner Academy, recognized as the #6 ranked High School nationally and the top High School in Kansas according to US News.

With a comprehensive educational structure that includes Head Start programs, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, KCKPS stands as the fifth largest district in Kansas. Our student demographic consists of approximately 56% Hispanic, 24% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian. To support our diverse learners, the district employs around 4,000 staff members, including over 1,800 educators.

OBJECTIVE: To enhance student understanding and application of essential concepts, skills, and behaviors that foster the development of responsible and capable members of society. The aim is to ensure ongoing improvement in state and national performance metrics, preparing students for future academic and career opportunities in a global context, ensuring that performance is consistently on track for success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Integrate 21st Century Skills into the educational curriculum. Fulfill a full duty day in assigned locations. Assess student capabilities in relation to educational goals and objectives to maximize achievement. Design and implement a variety of instructional strategies and activities tailored to meet the needs of students. Create a conducive learning environment by managing student behavior effectively. Maintain open communication with students and parents regarding instructional expectations and student progress. Regularly evaluate student achievement and maintain necessary documentation for reporting purposes. Collaborate with fellow educators in planning effective instructional strategies and curriculum development. Engage in professional development activities, including staff meetings and training sessions. Document student progress through accurate record-keeping and reporting. Ensure a safe, attractive, and conducive classroom environment for learning. Participate in extracurricular activities as requested by school leadership. Contribute to IEP meetings for students requiring special education services. Possess strong knowledge of content, curriculum, and instructional methods relevant to the teaching specialty. Stay informed on current research and educational theories. Plan and implement lessons aligned with curriculum objectives and student needs. Build and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Exhibit strong oral and written communication skills. Maintain professionalism and a neat appearance at all times. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Fulfill employment criteria set by the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education and the Kansas State Department of Education. Hold a valid Kansas teaching certificate in the relevant instructional area. An endorsement in English as a Second Language is preferred or a commitment to obtain it.

COMMUNICATION:

Foster communication with educators, school personnel, and parents to collaboratively address the educational needs of students.

Provide health services and counseling to promote the well-being of the school community.

Complete necessary reports for incidents involving students or staff.

Maintain confidentiality regarding educational records.

ORGANIZATION:

Keep a daily log of school visits and related documentation.

Ensure the health office environment is well-maintained and equipped.

Utilize technology effectively in fulfilling job responsibilities.

Perform additional related tasks as required.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions provided in different formats.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals and technical documents. Ability to write reports and effectively present information to various audiences.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements of this position may include sitting, walking, standing, and occasionally lifting or moving items up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is typically loud, and the employee is responsible for the safety and well-being of students.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply current research to instructional programs and establish effective working relationships with students, parents, and the community.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 186 days

SALARY: Based on KCKPS Salary Schedule

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

REPORT TO: Principal

Evaluation: Performance will be assessed according to KCKPS Board of Education policy.
