Position Overview

This role provides a unique opportunity to collaborate within a project team comprising engineers and designers dedicated to the design, modification, and analysis of electrical systems for nuclear power facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and assess engineering design change packages aimed at installing, replacing, or enhancing existing equipment to ensure long-term reliability.
  • Conduct and evaluate detailed engineering calculations supporting design change packages, including studies related to AC and DC power, short circuits, cable ampacity, voltage drops, breaker coordination, motor starting, and protective relay settings.
  • Create and review specifications for equipment procurement.
  • Engage in the bid evaluation process for potential equipment suppliers, which includes addressing vendor inquiries and maintaining a tracking system for all communications.
  • Draft and review scoping documents for conceptual designs, including constructability assessments.
  • Collaborate with project team members from various engineering and design disciplines (Mechanical, Structural, Civil, I&C).
  • Interact with clients to support project initiatives, including personnel implementation.
  • Work with vendors to conduct document reviews and provide written feedback.
  • Participate in client meetings and site visits to confirm project scope and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Travel to client and vendor locations for design reviews and on-site construction coordination.
  • Support installation activities during project execution.
  • Assist the project manager in ensuring projects are completed to satisfaction, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Oversee the technical, financial, and administrative performance of the engineering scope by:
    • Defining and communicating the scope of work to project team members.
    • Establishing deliverables (e.g., calculations, specifications, drawings, design changes).
    • Monitoring the progress of team members to maintain project scope and budget while keeping clients informed.
    • Conducting routine status meetings.
    • Submitting progress reports.
    • Tracking and resolving outstanding issues and emergent project challenges.
    • Coordinating the completion of project deliverables.
Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience:
  • A degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in the design of electrical systems within a project team setting, particularly for industrial applications focused on power plants.
  • Proficiency in selecting equipment and materials, as well as preparing and assembling engineering design change packages, calculations, and specifications.
  • Experience with electrical system design, including low and medium voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, motors, relays, etc.).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey information to project team members and clients.
  • A detail-oriented approach to work.
  • Ability to obtain unescorted access to a nuclear power facility.
Valued but Not Required Skills and Experience:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE).
