Job Summary

The Community Mortgage Lending Officer is an entry-level position responsible for driving mortgage sales and client relationships through engagement with community clients, diverse real estate agents, and affordable housing non-profit partners in coordination with the Consumer Product Sales team. This role is directly responsible for the sale of a specific product or product set directly to clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Consult with customers to understand their financial situation, goals, and lending needs to help them achieve their home ownership objectives.
  • Analyze financial information to assess whether customers and properties may qualify for particular lending solutions.
  • Recommend lending solutions that meet customers' financial and personal objectives, advising them on the consequences, risks, and benefits of alternative options.
  • Promote Citi's brand and financial services to real estate agencies, builders, referral sources, and customers.
  • Visit customers outside of Citi's offices to build relationships and drive mortgage business.
  • Work with internal partners to support and grow customers, referring them to Citi professionals for financial services beyond lending.
  • Partner with Operations teams to ensure seamless loan application processing and document transfer.
  • Collaborate with Processors/Closers and customers to ensure timely loan closings.
  • Develop key referral relationships with Realtors, CPAs, Builders, and other industry professionals to drive mortgage business.
  • Assess risk when making business decisions, prioritizing Citi's reputation and safeguarding its clients and assets.
  • Introduce clients to segment partners, such as Bank, Wealth Management, Small Business, Cards, and others.
  • Stay informed about local market trends, industry developments, and changing regulations to better serve clients and industry professionals.
  • Attend diverse Realtor and/or affordable housing nonprofit events to build relationships and drive business.
Requirements
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in residential mortgage sales.
  • Established relationships with diverse realtor organizations and affordable lending nonprofits in the origination territory.
  • Experience with community loan products, including specialized LMI mortgage solutions, lender-paid assistance programs, and 3rd-party assistance programs.
  • FHA/VA & conventional loan experience is preferred.
  • The ability to comprehend and explain financial calculations and pricing alternatives.
  • Strong customer service skills, self-motivation, and ability to work independently.
  • Expertise in general lending products and the overall mortgage industry.
  • This position requires registration as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry.
  • Originate a minimum of 3 loans per month with a minimum mix of 50% being either CRA eligible or within minority tracts.
Education
  • Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent experience.
