Position Overview:
The Department of Pathology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is in search of a seasoned M.D. or Ph.D. professional with a robust background in diagnostic assay development and research pathology. This role also demands expertise in research administration, scientific writing, and project management.

Key Responsibilities:
The Scientific Research Manager will collaborate closely with the Department Chair and the Business Office of the Pathology Department to leverage their specialized knowledge in formulating and advancing innovative strategies for the department. This includes:
  • Establishing infrastructure and workflows to facilitate diagnostic advancements.
  • Creating scientific and educational initiatives in partnership with clinical departments.
  • Engaging with pathology faculty, medical oncologists focused on early cancer detection, technical staff, business development directors, and industry collaborators.

Essential Duties:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Evaluating and setting strategic goals for the department, including its Core lab.
  • Implementing strategic plans in collaboration with the Research Operations Manager.
  • Identifying laboratory instrument platforms that align with new strategic directions.
  • Collaborating with clinical investigators and industry partners to support projects requiring clinical research laboratory testing.
  • Overseeing daily operations in the Pathology Department Core lab and participating in significant decision-making processes.
  • Contributing to fundraising efforts, enhancing visibility, and grant writing.
  • Providing scientific writing and editing for grant applications and research proposals.
  • Maintaining project tracking systems and preparing status reports for stakeholders.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Exceptional judgment and the ability to prioritize complex tasks.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, particularly in scientific writing.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • A commitment to research ethics and responsible conduct in research.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite applications and experience with citation software.
  • A minimum of 5 years of technical experience in pathology, with a background in surgical/anatomic pathology or clinical pathology.
  • Project management experience and supervisory experience in a matrixed environment are preferred.
