Your Role

The Grants Specialist will be an integral part of the Grantmaking Operations team within the Operations department, dedicated to ensuring that resources effectively reach frontline activist organizations.

Reporting to the Managers of Grantmaking Operations, the successful candidate will oversee complex grantmaking programs, contributing to a high-performing and dedicated grants management team.


Key Responsibilities
Grantmaking
  • Oversee due diligence and grantmaking protocols for a diverse portfolio of grants across 50+ countries.
  • Develop and implement responsive grantmaking strategies that adapt to evolving contexts and needs.
  • Conduct research on compliance and financial regulations pertinent to various countries, identifying potential risks.
  • Collaborate with Program and Grantmaking Operations to manage grants and relationships according to their specific risk profiles.
  • Coordinate grant recommendation processes with Program, Fundraising, and Finance teams.
  • Evaluate incoming grant proposals for eligibility in accordance with established protocols.
  • Enhance grantee relations by serving as the primary contact, facilitating communication in multiple languages.
  • Lead regular meetings and strategic sessions to streamline grantmaking workflows and budget collaboration.
  • Integrate data-driven insights into fundraising proposals and evaluation reports.

Database and Systems Administration
  • Assist in managing the Fund's grants management system, ensuring accurate records and compliance.
  • Generate necessary reports and dashboards for interdepartmental use.
  • Enhance system functionalities for improved user experience and data integrity.
  • Collaborate on testing new database releases and resolving any issues.
  • Support the design of grantee portals for efficient interactions and reporting.

Project Coordination
  • Lead internal projects, ensuring cohesive reporting and project closure.
  • Support the Manager of Grantmaking Systems & Projects in stakeholder engagement and feedback integration.
  • Identify project risks and recommend solutions for successful implementation.
  • Document project outcomes, embedding learning into grantmaking operations.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience in managing workflows and projects, with at least one year in human rights or fundraising.
  • Experience navigating legal and financial frameworks in the UK/US and knowledge of international grantmaking trends.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage sensitive data confidentially.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English and proficiency in French, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a non-profit environment, particularly in grants management.
  • Interest in human rights and social justice issues.
  • Additional language proficiency, especially in French, Spanish, or Arabic.
