Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team at Petco. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional medical care to our patients and delivering outstanding customer service to their owners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia
  • Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications, and maintain electronic medical records
  • Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, and maintain client/patient records
  • Help prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, assist with anesthesia, and monitor patients during recovery
  • Under supervision, perform in-hospital treatments for sick patients, including giving injectable and oral medications, and intravenous fluid therapy
Requirements
  • Previous experience working in a veterinary practice or animal care setting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Compassionate and sympathetic, with a professional attitude and demeanor
  • Telephone and computer skills
  • Ability to work as a team player, learn new techniques, and adapt to changing situations
Work Environment

The majority of job duties will be conducted in the Veterinary Hospital, requiring bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing for long periods. You will interact with clients and their pets, as well as veterinary specialists and companies that provide products and services to the practice.
