Mechanic (Transportation Specialist)

We are seeking a skilled Mechanic (Transportation) to join our team at NW Natural. As a key member of our fleet maintenance team, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of fleet vehicles and equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Inspect and maintain fleet vehicles and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and automotive computer problems.
- Identify problems, estimate material and labor requirements, and prepare repair orders.
- Order necessary parts and track inventory levels.
- Document work progress and communicate with outside vendors as needed.
- Coordinate DOT and DEQ inspections and arrange for alternate vehicles if necessary.
- Dispatch and assign work to team members and provide training and feedback as needed.
- Perform other tasks as required, including those in lower levels of the job family.
- Four years of experience as a mechanic in a dealership, fleet maintenance, or similar environment.
- Advanced knowledge of air systems, vehicle electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and welding practices.
- Advanced math and reading skills.
- Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
- Comprehensive knowledge of NW Natural's organization, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to interface with employees and customers to answer questions or resolve issues.
- Ability to prioritize workload, concentrate on tasks, and work in a structured team environment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work involving walking, standing, bending, twisting, and lifting.
- Valid OR/WA driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
- Knowledge of driving techniques for various truck/trailer combinations and coupling/decoupling trailers.
- ASE certification preferred.
- Ability to use diagnostic programs and tools, including Ford IDS, Texa Diesel, Cummins Insight, and OTC 5000 Scan Tool.
