Job Summary

The Director of Behavioral Health Services is a key member of the Nisqually Indian Tribe's interdisciplinary team, responsible for providing strategic oversight and planning, leadership, and direction to the wellness program staff. This position has overall responsibility for the management of the wellness programs serving the Nisqually Community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of quality services through supervision, mentorship, and coaching of supervisory staff.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate program policies and procedures that meet accepted professional standards and standards of regulatory bodies.
  • Conduct and administer fiscal operations, including accounting, planning budgets, authorizing expenditures, and coordinating financial reporting.
  • Collaboratively design a strategy to improve access for patients, patient outcomes, staff satisfaction, and patient satisfaction with services.
  • Plan and implement prevention and early intervention programs.
  • Administer state and federal grants.
  • Facilitate coordination of services with Tribal, State, and County justice system agencies and external behavioral health providers.
  • Support coordination of services and/or client advocacy with other tribal programs.
  • Participate on a multi-disciplinary team that plans for continuous improvement and coordination of client services.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Masters or other advanced degree in social services, community health education, or public administration.
  • Active, unencumbered WA State license for practice (LMHC, LMFT, LASW, LICSW, Licensed Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist) AND/OR current WA State Substance Use Disorder Professional certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in behavioral health systems and a minimum of five years working as a Senior Level Behavioral Health Administrator with responsibilities over multiple program areas.
  • Valid driver's license and be insurable under the Tribes Insurance policy.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with Tribes and Native Communities.

Other Job Requirements

Must meet travel requirements and authorize and complete a background check prior to employment.

Competencies

Knowledge of:

Possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Direct knowledge of federal, state, local funding sources available to support substance use disorder and mental health services. Command of advanced principles of management, including budget development and management and strategic planning.

Skill in:

  • Leadership demonstrated through extensive knowledge and management of multiple, complex behavioral health programs with associated policy and program risk.
  • Developing and directing behavioral health policy implementation.

Ability to:

  • Maintain professionalism and strict confidentiality with all materials, and exercise discretion when interfacing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to balance collaborative leadership and sound decision-making.

This position is generally sedentary. Employee sits most of the time but may walk or stand for brief periods to include offsite locations. Must be able to operate a personal computer and related office equipment necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.
